A shop window has two seconds. A poster can say one thing in that time — and it says it for six weeks, whether or not the weather, the collection or the stock have changed. A digital surface changes with the day and stays readable against the sun.
In retail it is not the surface that decides but the timing. Different people walk past in the morning than at six, and different ones again at the weekend. A printed surface cannot react to that.
Seconds, not weeks
The promotion in the window now
Discount agreed, size sold out, delivery arrived: you change it in SCRN Cloud and the window shows it immediately — no print shop, no window dresser.
Scheduling
Different advertising by time of day
A coffee greeting for commuters in the morning, the collection in the afternoon, a pointer to tomorrow in the evening. Set up once, it runs by itself.
Daylight
Readable against the sun
High-brightness panels from 1,500 cd/m² for south and west aspects. An ordinary television behind glass only shows the passer-by their own reflection.
After closing
The surface keeps working
The window still advertises when the shop is shut — dimmed, with a different motif, or switched off entirely for the night.
Several branches
One campaign, every shop
Set it centrally and publish everywhere, or give individual sites their own promotions. No parcels, no mounting instructions.
No print costs
What posters really cost
Every change otherwise means layout, printing, shipping and dressing. At six changes a year across several branches that is the larger item.
[ 02 ] Behind glass
Behind glass, different rules apply.
A display in a shop window stands in conditions found nowhere else: sun from the front, heat build-up behind, changing light across the day and often a standing motif for weeks.
High brightness from 1,500 cd/m² for direct sunlight, from 700 for north aspects and arcades.
Automatic dimming by daylight, so the surface neither glares nor looks cheap in the evening.
Burn-in protection for logos and prices that stay in the same place for weeks.
Portrait or landscape — portrait works harder in narrow windows because it follows a human silhouette.
For a standard setup we plan one to two weeks from your first message to live operation.
We look at the window
Aspect, shading, sight line from the street. Brightness, diagonal and format follow from that — not from a catalogue.
The motifs get built
We translate your campaign into layouts that work in passing: one message, large type, movement at the edge of the field of view.
Installation in the window
Displays come from stock, our own team mounts, wires and calibrates — with a made-to-measure mount, freestanding if needed.
Handover and operation
Your team changes content itself, monitoring keeps running on our side. For failures in prime locations we are on site within 24 hours.
[ 04 ] Cost
What it costs.
You buy the displays once, the software runs as a monthly licence per display. The concrete quote follows the briefing — these figures give you the order of magnitude.
That depends on the aspect. North sides and covered locations usually manage with 700 cd/m², south and west façades in direct sun need 1,500 or more. We look at the façade and measure — free of charge in Berlin.
Can a display survive the heat behind the glass?
Yes, if it is built for it. Professional panels have temperature management and higher operating limits than consumer devices. Closed enclosures without air circulation are the critical case — there we plan ventilation in.
Can the surface keep running after closing time?
Yes, and it usually makes sense: footfall in front of the window does not stop when the shop shuts. You can run dimmed, switch to a night motif, or shut down entirely via night mode.
What about electricity costs?
A 55-inch display in continuous operation costs roughly £15 to £25 equivalent per month depending on brightness. Night mode lowers that considerably because the surface is off during the hours without an audience.
Does this work across several branches?
That is exactly what the platform is built for. You maintain one campaign and publish it everywhere, or give individual shops their own content. Surfaces running in sync in one window front need SCRN Premium.
Can we keep our existing screens?
Often yes. We check free of charge whether your devices can be connected to our CMS. If they can, you save the hardware investment — if not, we say so directly.
Send us a photo of your window.
With a picture of the façade and its aspect we will tell you which brightness and format fit — and what it costs. Reply within two working days.
